Kenya Aberdares TreeTop Lodge
Kenya Aberdares Treetop Lodge was built by Major Eric Sherbrooke Walker as a dedication to His wife Lady Bettie in 1982. The lodge was strategically overlooking a waterhole where animals would come to lick salt or for water refreshment. It could only open on Wednesdays and guests would be invited to for night viewing. However, it officially opened its doors to the public on 6th November with 2 beds.
Tree Top Lodge prides in this once day when the Queen Elizabeth ascended into this wonderful tree top house as a little girl and descended Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and history was written down. This was in 1952, fifth of February when she spent the night in the then three bedroom lodge.
In 1950’s the Mau Mau waged war against the British Colonialists and this sadly happened in the Aberdare forest. This lead to the closure of Kenya Aberdares Treetop Lodge and it was burnt down by the MauMau as a payback for the protest against shoot-on-sight order that was subject to them.
In 1857 the lodge was rebuilt and this time had 14 beds on a chest nut tree just opposite of the waterhole and near an Elephant pathway to Mount Kenya.
In 1978 Shebrooke Walker sold the Kenya Aberdares Treetop Lodge to Sir Malin Sorsbie in 1961 who sold it to Block Hotels Limited in 1966 and was finally taken by the current owners Aberdare Safari Hotels Limited and sister Outspan Hotel in Nyeri purchased Treetops lodge. They continued developing the lodge to 40 rooms in 1983 and later expanded to 50 rooms in 1966.
In 1983, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came back to the Treetops Lodge Kenya thirty years later only to find and appreciate the new ownership and retreat program to rehabilitate 125ha of Aberdare National Park including the lodge surroundings.
In 2012 the Kenya Aberdares Treetop Lodge temporary closed down for a major reconstruction which gave birth to a modern 36 En-suite rooms which ensures guests are comfortable with great customer care experience as they go for game viewing activities.
