Najib Balala, Minister of Tourism in Kenya had a lot to talk about on development of tourism industry in the country during the ITB Berlin expo, in which Kenya has been participating for over thirty years. The government has been heavily investing in Marketing Kenya and this strategy has been doing surprisingly well for the last few years. The minister indicates that he has crossed the 2 million mark of visitors per year. The key markets include US, British, German, china and India as the big markets. Other markets mentioned as smaller but important include Pollard, Austria, Switzerland among others.
A lot of development is underway to ensure that the established national blueprint 2030; infrastructure, marketing, investing and product development, is achieved. The government has been investing on reconstruction of railway line and has started with the Mombasa Nairobi railway which is already seeing many tourists use the train as a choice to travel between the two cities during their safari from Mombasa to Nairobi or safari from Nairobi to Mombasa. Another railway project is underway that will now connect Kisumu with the other cities in Kenya.
He also mentioned that tourism industry has grown from 10 to 14 GDP and is key to creating jobs for most Kenyans and therefore very important.
He couldn’t finish without reminding the world that Kenya is the best tour destination in Africa and Diani Beach as the best Kenya’s icon and the most visited beach in Africa.
