Lake Nakuru is a landmark along the Great East African Rift valley; we will halt to see the valley itself and the escarpment. A saline lake, Lake Nakuru attracts lots of birds. The pink shores attract from afar and it’s the colour of the flamingos. There is a bushy and wooded plain around the lake where the wild animals and birds live. The gorgeous scenery has rocky ridges and an escarpment too. Lake Nakuru is the best park for bird watching, hiking, tour drives and picnics.
Lake Bogoria is a place along the Great Rift Valley floor as well. Also called The Healing Place, Lake Bogoria is where geothermal power is produced. It has natural geysers and hot springs and lures lots of lesser flamingos. Lake Bogoria’s best tourist activities are wildlife viewing, bird watching and photography.
Yet another Great Rift Valley lake is Lake Baringo. It will be our next destination. The lake itself has a lot of algae growing inside and it is what the flamingos eat. There are also several birds that come to eat the algae. There are more than 400 species of birds. Some are local birds and others are migratory bird species.
Lake Naivasha is also a place on the Rift Valley floor. The main attractions are the boat rides offered across the lake to Crescent Island. Walking tours, game drives and bird watching are offered too.
