Overview – Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is often refered as the ‘Land of elephants’ – You’ll will often see the impressive elephants here carrying massive tusks. The wildlife animals walk majestically against the glorious and breathtaking views of Mt Kilimanjaro, which makes an awesome backdrop to the small park. Apart from elephants, this is a home to many wildlife animals like lion, cheetah, girrafes, zebras, hyenas and lots of birdlife. This is a photographer’s paradise. Early mornings and late afternoons are best for clear views of Mt. Kilimanjaro
About Amboseli National Park
Amboseli is Kenya’s second most popular national park after the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It occupies an area of 392 square kilometers.
With excellent year-round sightings and beautiful landscapes, it is believed to be one of Kenya’s most attractive areas for a safari trip.
The local people around Amboseli are mainly Maasai people who are really rich in their culture.
Location:
Amboseli is about 4 hrs drive from Nairobi and is situated North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro bodering Kenya & Tanzania. If one would like to get away for a short Kenya tour – this park would be ideal for a 2 days safari from Nairobi or a 3 Days Safari. It’s 7 hours drive from Mombasa by road to Amboseli.
When can you Visit:
It is open all year through. You can visit any time of the year. The best time to view wildlife is during the dry season(Jan- Mar & Jun to Oct) The park is normally opened from 06.00hrs to 18.00hrs daily.
How To get There:
By road – African Memorable Safaris can organize for you a tour package from Mombasa Kenya, you can combine with Tsavo East National park to make it a more memorable road safari experience. If you would like a safari tour from Nairobi Kenya, it would only take 4 hours drive.
By Air – There are scheduled flights from Nairobi to Amboseli. There are also scheduled flights from Mombasa but there should be a minimum of 4 persons.
Train – Nairobi – Mombasa- Nairobi SGR Train which operates daily, makes a stopover at Emali town – nearest town.
Things Likely to be seen:
- Wildlife animals – Many herds of elephants. Other animals likely to be seen are lions, Leopard, Buffalo, cheetah, giraffes, Zebra, Antelopes, hyenas, warthog, hippo among many others and lots of birdlife.
- Observation Hill – It’s one of the few spots in the park where you can get out of your safari vehicle and just walk. At the summit, take in the plains, marshes, lakes and roads below. You’ll see wonderful views of Mt. Kilimanjaro to the south and the great swamps to the east.
- Mt. Kilimanjaro – This is likely to be seen on clear days mostly in the early mornings and late afternoons.
- Bird Watching – Excellent bird watchers paradise.
- Maasai People – The local people who live around the park are Maasai people who are very rich in their culture. If you would wish to visit them, your guide can make the arrangements at a small extra fee. Experience their traditions and lifestyle.
